Things to Do in Newquay at Christmas

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner but with less than a month to go, it’s time to get into the festive spirit once again. If you are looking for something different to do this year then Newquay is the place to go. With so much to see and do from beach runs, live music, seasonal ale and even self storage in Newquay, whether you spend a day, weekend or week in the seaside town, there is plenty to keep you entertained at Christmas time.

Santa Beach Run

On Sunday 1st December 2013, those who like to embrace the great outdoors can take part in Newquay’s first ever Santa Beach Run. The main aim is to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care so regardless of whether you prefer to walk, jog or run, participants of all fitness levels are encouraged to join in. Entry is £10 for adults and £5 for children and includes a free Santa costume. The race starts at 9:30 am from the Blue Reef Aquarium and ends at Lusty Glaze Beach which is approximately one mile away.

Festive weekend at Newquay Zoo

From the 7th – 8th December 2013, animal lovers can get into the festive spirit and see some of their favourite species at the same time. Visitors can meet Santa in his grotto, have a special tour of the zoo from his helpful elves and even help the team deliver Christmas enrichment presents to all the animals. On the Sunday, from 3:30 pm there will be carol singing, mince pies and mulled wine.

Christmas Music and Ale Festival

From the 20th until the 22nd December, Newquay truly comes to life and makes the most of the holiday season. With heart-warming live music, a fantastic selection of local ales and a fantastic new set-up on the Piazza, attendees can well and truly get into the Christmas spirit. The event starts at 11 am each day and entertains the crowd with musical favourites and many other events until 11:00 pm.

Christmas Eve Festive Fun

This magical day that only comes along once a year can be enjoyed with loved ones at the family disco that takes place at Hotel Victoria. From 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm, children will be beside themselves waiting for Santa to arrive for the disco and a screening of a popular Christmas film.

For something a bit more active, the Rotary Club’s Christmas Eve Collection is suitable for children of all ages. The event has been running for more than 50 years now and this year promises to be more spectacular than ever. With a whole host of attractions including Dairyland tractor rides, pony rides and the Town band, from 10am onwards, Christmas really will begin.

If you have any energy left, adults can dance the night away at the Rotary Annual Ball which takes place at the Hotel Bristol. The black tie event is held to raise money for charity and includes a delicious multi-course meal followed music from one of Cornwall’s best bands, Chameleon Sounds.

Whilst there is so much to see and do in Newquay around Christmas time, it is of course a great place to visit all year round. With some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, historical places of interest, plenty of activities for children, bars, cafes, restaurants and even self storage in Newquay, it really is impossible to get bored.
